As the nation observes Falls Prevention Awareness Day on September 22, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is urging older adults to schedule a balance and falls assessment with a physical therapist to reduce risk of falls and related injuries.
Does your practice offer falls risk assessments?
Are your referring Dr’s aware that you offer it? Did you know that falls assessment is one of the approved measures in Medicare’s PQRI (Physician Quality Reporting Initiative) program with incentive payments for qualifying professionals?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than one third of adults ages 65 and older fall each year in the United States. Offering falls risk assessments can be a wonderful way to assist the aging in your community and help reduce those numbers.
In addition, offering this service can afford you the opportunity to improve patient care, reconnect with your referring Dr’s and build new relationships—not only with medical professionals but with our elderly citizens who have so much to share!
